20 reasons to be happy it’s nearly summer!

Spring officially sprung on the 1st September (as it does every year).

Cape Town, in true Mother City fashion, didn’t notice. But we rest
assured that warm weather will be on its way eventually. Joburg is
warming up nicely and Durban, well Durban doesn’t do winter.

So,
while our Daisy Dukes and flip-flops wait patiently for their moment here is a list of
great foodie hotspots we can look forward to this summer!

Cape Town

KOI restaurant
Joburg, we now know what all the fuss was about. This is the perfect
place for a glass of wine (from their excellent selection) and some
fresh sushi or dim sum after a long day on Clifton beach. Definitely
worth securing a table at this new and stylish Bantry Bay restaurant.
The location of the new Asian fusion eatery is the deal maker.

The Taproom: We’ll get down to some serious beer drinking in a trendy but authentic location.

The Wembley Tap: Shall we talk about those 30 rotating back mount taps or the range of over 200 bottle beers?

Woodcutters Arms:  Sunday roast anyone? Because it’s always perfect weather for roast potatoes.

Braai market: Sunday 15th September on Wild Clover Farm – featuring Masterchef SA judge Pete Goffe-Wood.

Burger & beer night at my new favourite venue Tamboers Winkel
is on a Thurdsday night – but you must book as space is limited. Also a
very nice wine selection at great prices, and don’t blame me if no
burger ever lives up to it again.

Makaron Restaurant: Just look at this gallery and you’ll see why.

Gourmet Braai at Overture Restaurant
: enjoy your favourite pastime with the best view imaginable and the masters of braai at your side. Ever heard of Bertus Basson?

Orphanage cocktail bar: Why not visit one of the Top 20 new bars in the world for a life-changing cocktail?

Durban

Vovo Telo has opened in Umhlanga. Need I say more die hard Vovo Telo fans?

The Sandbar, where you have the weather, the view, the cocktails and the fun.

VickyChristina’s on Florida Road is the place to go with friends to share some tapas and wine.

Harry’s Cocktail Bar: Like we ever need an excuse to visit a World Class establishment.

Freedom Café: There is always something fun happening at this vibey spot.

The Olive Garden
: You only need to follow their twitter stream in order to start drooling.

Last but certainly not least some kid-friendly vibes in Durbs.

Joburg

Our resident Joburg Foodie Kate Liquorish recommends The Wolf Pack to be feeding your burger and craft beer monster. Also 44 Stanley is the place to be getting your outdoor vibe on.

Kate also has 10 Melville Hotspots for you to check out.

If you want to take the kids out for some fun here is a nice selection of child-friendly places to go.

Taste of Joburg
: Taste food from the top restaurants in Jozi in a cool festive environment.

And, as an awesome surprise to all our readers… here are the 10 quirkiest craft beer breweries in South Africa. Go and pay them a visit y’all!

We’re
sure there are plenty more reasons for us to be embracing the warmer
weather all over SA and if you know of one then please email us on
editor@food24.com and the best suggestion will get a R250 Kalahari
voucher.

And of course its Heritage Day on 24 September so we’ll all be braaing our toasted sarmies off.

Enjoy it!
