Now in its fourth year, this search for the best casual restaurants in the country shines the spotlight on where South African foodies love to eat regularly. The list of winners is determined by combining star ratings by the public on the Eat Out app and Eat Out with ratings by the Eat Out panel of professional critics. Ratings for the full year from 1 September 2017 until 31 August 2018 are tallied to determine a shortlist for each of the categories per province.

The categories for the 2018 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Best Everyday Eateries are:
Best Asian Eatery
Best Bistro
Best Burger Eatery
Best Coffee Shop
Best Country-Style Eatery
Best Indian Eatery
Best Italian Eatery
Best Seafood Eatery
Best Steakhouse
Best Food Truck
Best Tapas Eatery
Best Mexican Eatery

To vote for their favourites, restaurant goers can download the Eat Out app or visit Eat Out to rate and review the eateries they have visited in the last year. Users can post as many reviews as they like, but only one per person per restaurant will be counted. The closing date for reviews by the public for this year’s accolades is 31 August 2018. For each review posted, Eat Out will also pledge a meal for a hungry child through Rise Against Hunger SA. The ultimate winners will be announced at events on 9 October in Cape Town, and on 16 October in Johannesburg.

“It’s always exhilarating to see the community coming together – the restaurants encouraging their happy patrons to review, and the passionate fans taking the time to tell us about their food heroes. Rating and reviewing is quicker and easier on our new app, so we’re looking forward to hearing from even more food lovers across SA,” says Eat Out editor Linda Scarborough.

For the fourth year running, Mercedes-Benz is sponsoring this celebration of the best local restaurants. Says Selvin Govender, Marketing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars: “At Mercedes-Benz we prize top performance in any sphere. Awards like the Best Everyday Eateries allow us to celebrate more casual restaurants that impress where it counts – with their loyal customers.”
