Women shebeen owners celebrate Women’s Day

The majority of tavern and shebeen owners in South Africa are women who have started up their businesses as a means of supporting their families.

South Africa’s leading total beverage alcohol company, brandhouse, celebrated national Woman’s Day by honouring these women and invited Malmsey Rangaka of M’hudi Wines to be the guest speaker at the event.

‘The celebration was the perfect opportunity to thank and pamper the hard working women in our communities, who are successful entrepreneurs and breadwinners for their families,’ said Zanele Njapha, Sustainability Manager at brandhouse.

Rangaka was one of the first black women to enter the largely white male dominated wine industry in 2003.
She spoke and shared about her journey in the wine industry – one that took courage and determination against all odds.

Together with her family, she owns M’hudi Wine. The brands are successfully selling in South Africa, Germany, the United Kingdom and United States of America. Rangaka also branched out into hospitality, opening a bed and breakfast in the scenic Cape Winelands.

The purpose of the event was for women tavern owners to realise their greater potential and grow their entities into sizable and sustainable businesses by taking inspiration from Malmsey Rangaka’s journey, gaining understanding of the business and working towards a goal.

Brandhouse is committed to investing in the communities in which it operates and as such, provides financial and non-financial assistance to SMMEs to help them grow their businesses.

Well done Brandhouse!
