On Thursday club members and guests of Nespresso SA were treated to indulgent eats and drinks at the trendy Katy’s Palace Bar in Kramerville, Johannesburg, where a radiant sunset of the Sandton skyline was admired before the evening’s festivities began.

Hosted by one of South Africa’s most popular vocalists of home-grown band Mi Casa and popular chef J’Something, he very graciously took up the self-imposed title of “J-Clooney”, after the brand’s well-known international face, actor George Clooney, much to the amusement of the crowd.

The event – to mark the launch of the Master Origin blend of coffees which Nespresso has sourced from five regions across the world – showcased the cuisine and culture of each country. These were India, Nicaragua, Columbia, Indonesia and Ethiopia.

An array of canapés, such as crispy potato skins, smoked salmon and chicken with peanut sauce, were offered to guests throughout the evening as guests sipped Nespresso chocolate martinis and other drinks.

Socialites, such as television presenter Danine Naidoo, actor Lee-Roy Wright, and singer and actress Helen Desbois, also indulged in the night’s affair.

J’Something, who has been involved with Nespresso for more than six years, had a hand in creating the flavours.

He hosted demonstrations and gave already-existing cocktails an innovative spin with a twist or two.

The masterpiece was a coffee-infused cocktail.

His favourite flavour from the range stems from Columbia.

Guests watched eagerly as he put together a sangria de fonseca, which included a mix of berries and a capsule of the Columbia Master Origin flavour, a real crowd-pleaser.
