What to do in October

I feel sorry for anyone attempting #OcSober this month. I think it’s an amazing thing to do, but yoh, not an easy challenge when the sun has finally come out in Cape Town and there is so much going on – the social calendar is prop-vol

And not just in Cape Town, you’ll be happy to hear.

So, we’ve rounded up a list of some of the cool stuff going on in October, and for those of you who are managing with #OcSober – there is still plenty to do, plus now every group should have at least one designated driver! Otherwise I recommend signing up with one of these great initiatives: 1fortheroad (which I personally use), Good Fellas and Home Hero. We are all about responsible drinking at Food24, and you should be too.

Cape Town & Winelands

The much anticipated La Parada has opened up on Bree Street. Tapas in a stylish venue – a very nice addition to the Bree Street rejuventation.

First Thursdays now have a Food Truck Market on Riebeek Square (Bree & Shortmarket). Man oh man.

A big favourite of Food24 is the Season of Sauvignon festival hosted by the wine estates of the Durbanville Wine Valley. So much of fun and very family-friendly.

Robertson Wine on the River. I never need an excuse to hit up the Robertson Wine Valley.

Keg King’s Open Tap Party at Aces’ n Spades – if you can drink 2L of beer by yourself, then be my guest.

The first Sunday of every month the fabulous 15 on Orange Hotel puts on a Bottomless Bubbly Sunday Lunch. This spread is a foodie experience worth having.

And of course the eagerly awaited Spier Secret Festival.

The Castle Rock Beer Experience near Ceres looks like it will be cooking.

Gauteng

Um, duh, the Delicious Festival. Whoa! Jamiroquai.

Our intrepid foodie Kate Liquorish has been hard at work eating and drinking her way around Gauteng like a trooper.

Her latest is a review of Toni’s Furnished Pizza Co in Craighall Park, an interview with Vusi Kenene owner of Blackanese (sounds amazing) and a round-up of all that is happening in Maboneng. I just want to pack my suitcase and go there right now.

Stellenbosch comes to Joburg at Summer Place is happening soon.

The MTN Montecasino Festival – a must for food lovers.

The rest of SA

An Oktoberfest for charity in Nelspruit.

Anyone tried Café Abyssinia  in Durban yet? Looks like fun!

The Durban Night Market also looks like a fun thing to do on Thursday nights.

This is just the tip of the iceberg so, if you know of any cool festivals or awesome things happening around the country – then please drop us a mail on editor@food24.com and we will include them on our events page and our monthly round-up of cool stuff to do. Also, we might just send you something fun to reward you for your noble deed. Litre of Olive oil anyone?

We are giving away loads of cool prizes and tickets to many of these events. So check out our competition page or follow us on twitter or Facebook, otherwise you will miss out.

Bring it on, October! I’ve got my eye on you.
