Yay! It’s time for our weekly #Trending Taste Test. We tried an energy drink with zero calories and almost no sugar: Lucozade Zero.
“People who want to cut down on the sugar in their cool drinks are really going to love Lucozade Zero, since it contains only 1.3g of sugar per 250ml and absolutely zero calories. There are two flavours – Orange and Pink Lemonade. The orange flavour is my favourite; after all, I’m from Limpopo, which is the home of oranges and we eat them a lot. I was sceptical about the pink lemonade flavour as I’m not a fan of lemon but, since it’s mixed with red berries, it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. This drink gave me energy to start my day in a good mood, and its aftertaste is really nice. I felt like I had just eaten some sweets because it was stuck on my tongue”. – Phuti Mathobela
“The last time I had a Lucozade, I’m pretty sure, Nelson Mandela was still a sitting head of state. So I was surprised when their sugar-free version arrived at our offices in a pretty little box with peonies. I started with the orange flavour (the original Lucozade flavour), which tasted like my childhood, just less sweet, which was quite a nice surprise. Often sugar-free stuff, particularly drinks, end up with a weird aftertaste that tastes like regret, but Lucozade seems to have worked around that. The pink lemonade flavour was yummy – a nice tart lemony taste, particularly refreshing when it’s cold and, again, none of the sweetness.” –Gugulethu Mhlungu
