We’ve just heard via the grapevine (we couldn’t help ourselves!) that local wine connoisseur, writer and foodie, Michael Olivier, has conceptualised and created a new platform for purchasing wine. It’s called wine4friends.
“We offer seasonal boxes of interesting and sometimes unusual wines especially curated by renowned South African wine connoisseur, Michael Olivier, and delivered directly to your door anywhere in South Africa”, reads the site’s description.

Michael feels that many of the greatest South African wineries do not yet have a significant online presence, and through wine4friends, he hopes to change this
“I like to think that there are enough people out there who enjoy wine and would like to have an introduction to wines of which they may not have heard of yet. The boxes will have three bottles at most of a wine type, so they will have lots to try each time.”

>Splashing Out
Altogether, the 3 boxes represent wines of 15 wine estates, all chosen specifically for each different box by Michael and the wine4friends team. There are also some other boxes in the pipeline and the Summer offering will be announced soon.
Michael says, “South African wines compare with the best of the world, and with our winemakers and viticulturists travelling the world to learn all there is to know, our wines constantly keep improving. We are definitely up there with the best.”
