Weekend Menu

The weekend is upon us, and there is so much fantastic food fun to be had!

If you are going down to beautiful Knysna, get ready for a weekend of oyster guzzling and champagne quaffing at the Knysna oyster festival. It is always such a fun weekend, with a good balance of exercise and feasting. Some of our Food24 lovelies are going to be there, with shuckers in one hand and glasses in the others. Watch out Knysna.

We’re also donning our berets for the
Franschhoek bastille festival. It promises to be a ‘trés’ amazing weekend. There are boules and barrel rolling competitions, the incredible food and wine marquee, plays, fun runs and kiddies activities. So if you can make it, I highly recommend a good dose of French fabulousness.

If you decide to stay put and chill, we’ve got some great recipes for you to try. It doesn’t have to be hard work; let’s cook easy this weekend.

Friday
For a relaxed Friday evening, try these warming butter beans with sausages. Scoop them up with some warm, crusty ciabatta and yummy garlic butter.

Saturday

For a quick and fun breakfast, these
bacon and egg baskets will go down a treat with the whole family. And if you want to add a delicious, healthy dimension to the start of your day, try this pear and honey smoothie.

You could invite your mates over to watch the Ashes, and hit them for a six with these gut-filling steak and tomato bunny chows. Serve them with mounds of crispy potato wedges and sweet chilli sauce. No plates required, and be sure to make extras!

Sunday
For a warming winter lunch or dinner, try this lamb knuckle and tomato stew. The oven does all the work and you will have a rib-sticking comfort meal to chase away the winter chills. Enjoy it with these decadent but simple luxury mashed potatoes.

When you feel your sweet tooth starting to throb, whip up a batch of these simple chocolate brownies. You can snack on them the whole weekend.

Cuddle up and have a good one!
