Why not turn the cold weather into a brilliant idea and visit this spectacular Winelands destination where a massive two meter diameter open fireplace and stylish leather furniture set the scene for cosy wine tastings in its tasting lounge. Whilst soaking up the glow of the crackling fire in the company of a mellowed Merlot and spicy Shiraz, visitors can get cosy with an appetising platter of all kinds of delicious treats.

The popular Waterkloof Winter Platter features homemade meat terrine, the estate’s own organic olives, toasty bread and a trio of cheeses which includes Waterkloof’s noble Healey’s Slow Matured Cheddar – which churned out Champion status at the South African Dairy Championships 2015, by winning the 10-18 months Cheddar Category. The platter guarantees to perk up the palate and mood.

Cocooned in a contemporary glass and concrete sphere, Waterkloof’s tasting room is flanked by its fine dining restaurant, in a glass box on the crest of the Schapenberg, overlooking the farm and False Bay that has such an influence over its amphitheatre of vineyards.

Waterkloof’s wines can be tasted at the estate from Wednesdays to Sundays. A standard tasting costs R30 per person for a flight of six wines from Waterkloof’s False Bay and Peacock Wild Ferment collections, or R40 for a premium tasting of the estates exclusive Circle of Life, Seriously Cool and Circumstance wines.
