UBER taxis to deliver food

UBER, the international taxi service company, has announced on their official blog that they will be trialing a fast food delivery system in the USA this week.

The taxi service company is extremely popular internationally and launched in South Africa in Cape Town and Joburg last year. The super convenient taxi ordering system works via an app downloaded to your smartphone. You enter your credit card and user details once off and you can then order and pay for UBER taxis from your phone when you need them and no cash is necessary. You can even track the progress of your taxi on a map.

How uberFRESH works:

During the trial starting in Santa Monica this week there will be fixed daily meal – either a sandwich, soup or a salad worth $12 (roughly R120) – available from a selected local restaurant.

Existing taxi Uber taxi drivers will relay the food from restaurant to customer. The drivers will bring the food as far as the street address, the customers will have to come to the street to receive their order.

Directions for ordering (taken from the blog site)

1. Toggle to the uberFRESH option on the far right of the slider between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm from August 26th – September 5th. (Closed on weekends and Labor Day)

2. Set your delivery location within the Santa Monica
coverage area and request away

3. Upon arrival, meet your driver outside to grab your delicious lunch

With the tagline ‘Hungry to Happy in 10 Minutes’, UBER are hoping for success in the trial that has just kicked off in Santa Monica, USA. Based on this trial they will expand the business further afield. Let’s hope it hits SA soon!
