The Wine Society Series at Charango

There’s a new tasting menu to try in the Mother City, taking place once a month, conveniently just after Pay Day on the first Tuesday of the month. Charango‘s unique Peruvian-style food combines elements of Japanese cuisine to create a contemporary approach to street food and casual yet sophisticated dining.

The Wine Society evening is an extension of their current style but allows for a nicely dynamic dinner experience where one can enjoy a 5 course tasting menu paired with a particular wine farm. The menu will change according to the particular collaboration and seasonal availability of produce and ingredients.

Food24 was invited to try out one of the dinners shared with Boschendal. Boschendal’s sommelier was there to explain each pairing and answer any questions. The food and wine paired perfectly with the Summery Tuesday evening featuring zesty tuna ceviche, a tasty salmon trout sashimi pizza and a delectable prawn dish with chilli, garlic butter, tomatoes and avocado – to name a few. The prawn dish was one of the highlights, paired with Boschendal’s signature Chardonnay/Pinot Noir 2016, a lovely pale blush coloured wine that is very lightly wooded and has subtle notes of Summer berries.

If you wish to join for a Wine Society evening, the next one will take place on 4th April and will be paired with Iona wines. The menu is priced at R450 per person and includes 5 courses and wine pairing. Booking is essential. See more details on Charango here.
