The Table of Peace and Unity

If “foodish” be the international language of love then, The Table of Peace and Unity is where mother earth feeds her family.  This is the tenth year that this incredible meal will, once again unite 750 South Africans from all walks of life –  around its’ bountiful table.

The inspiration of Christine Cashmore – this wonderful event has raised more than R7 000 000, 00 since its inception in 2000 – these funds have been shared by many worthy child related charities.

The Cape Hotel School  provided us with the taster in the Arnold Brock Room at heart of their home in Granger Bay.
What a well designed and conceived menu – great detail has been paid to every dish on the menu and all that is left to say is that this group of passionate, community minded and talented chefs should be very proud of themselves.

Starter
Miso cured Salmon, Asian salad and prawn samoosa with a sesame soy dressing.

This was clean and fresh on the palate and showcased our quality local fish and shellfish. The Asian salad of bean sprouts, carrot, cucumber and coriander was as tasty as it was crunchy.  This course was created by The Liz Mc Grath Collection and was a delicious way to set off on this celebration of South African food.

Main
Braised Karoo lamb with a thyme and rosemary crust, potato dauphinoise and a Port wine sauce.

Pure culinary magic, eliciting many “oohs and ahs” in appreciation from everyone at the table, and melt in the mouth. So well thought out, beautifully presented and eats like a dream by Roberto De Carvalho, Executive Chef of the Twelve Apostles.

Dessert
A chocolate mousse pyramid with an apple and saffron puree and beetroot syrup.

Again, another design concept triumph and  brought to life by the wizards of the Cape Town Hotel School Granger Bay that would definitely survive any wind conditions. It wrapped up the meal in style, grace and elegance.

All three courses were beautifully complemented by fine South African wines from Lazanou Organic Vineyards and Aquartz water.

The best entertainment South Africa has on offer will be performing at this event – Danny K, Coda and Chad Saaimon to name but a few.

Heart 104,9FM are the media partners for this event and you can download nomination forms from their website for the City’s Angels campaign – www.tableofpeaceandunity.co.za or www.1049.fm to nominate individuals or organizations, who, against all odds, have dedicated their lives to helping disadvantaged children in and around their community.

The chosen Angels will receive much needed funding in the form of supplies to make the environment in which they operate more comfortable for the children in their care.

Christine Cashmore and her team of Kate, Lesley and Beverley are quite formidable and special people, held together with a common cause  of those that cannot help or defend themselves – our children.

Each and every one of us in South Africa is the guardian of each and every child in this countr. We have a moral and communal responsibility to defend, nurture and protect our little ones and it can be said of Christine and her ‘angels’ that “A person never stands so tall as when they kneel to help a child.” – Author unknown.
