Answers to these and other questions can be found at ‘The Story of Food’ (#WDC461) – a World Design Capital Cape Town 2014 recognised project and exhibition curated by the Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI).
The exhibition explores how our relationship with food has changed over the years, in many parts thanks to new technologies in processing and packaging.

Running from mid-May to mid-October 2014 at the Good Hope Gallery at the Castle of Good Hope, the strongly educational exhibition shows the trajectory of history through the lens of food and the challenge of providing food for an exploding population along with the impact of the Industrial Revolution, urbanisation, consumerism and globalisation on the storage, packaging and provision of food.
The reason for the exhibition being selected as a World Design Capital project is because interwoven throughout is the role of design, interacting with key technological moments, societal needs and ecological imperatives.
The viewer leaves informed and aware of the sweeping contribution of design to this vital aspect of life and more conscious of wide-reaching consequences that need design solutions.

The exhibition will be open daily from 9h30 to 15h30 at a cost of R 30.00 for adults and R 15.00 for pensioners, students and children under the age of 16.
