Following on Earth Hour and hot on the trail of WaterAid comes something else that is making ripples in the environmental-consumer sector.
Wine makers in California have found a new ecologically friendly way of packaging wine, and it comes in the form of a cardboard tube. (Fancy papsak…methinks?)
The wine is aptly named FOUR as it is four bottles of wine packaged in a cylindrical container that is 100% recyclable and reduces the carbon footprint by 50%. (Environmentally friendly papsak…methinks?)
How convenient?
I bet you’re also thinking about the good old papsak – the 5L boxed wine from your heady student days. One difference between our old friend the papsak and this new and improved product is certainly the packaging is a lot more trendy and upmarket and potentially a bit more palatable.
FOUR is a quality Cabernet Sauvignon produced from fruit from the Paso Robles, Monterey and Lodi appellations, Healdsburg, California. A premium brand – but can be sold at a much lower price since shipping costs are greatly reduced.
An altogether win-win situation if you ask a self-confessed snobbish, cash-strapped and environmentally aware liquor pig like me.
And if you thought it doesn’t get better than that – the wine stays fresh for 30 days after opening, so you don’t have to drink all four bottles at once.
