The ‘Black Book’ of diets

The Black Book’s authors, showbiz journalists Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman, know the Hollywood scene inside out and can tell you exactly what keeps the world’s hottest bodies in A-list shape.

Do they actually eat?
According to Kym Douglas they do. “I remember sitting down to breakfast with Elizabeth Hurley and being shocked that she was having real bacon with her eggs, not turkey or tofu bacon. And she said: ‘I’m just going to have a salad for lunch and a little dinner, so it’s fine. But I’m not going to have fake bacon.'”

Supposedly Cindy Crawford sips vinegar to kill her appetite before heading out to dinner, while Demi Moore reaches for apple slices with peanut butter when she wants a sugar fix. Alicia Silverstone swears by kale and swiss chard and Catherine Zeta-Jones tucks into salmon and brown bread with a squeeze of lemon instead of mayonnaise or cream cheese when she has the munchies.

Hollywood’s hottest diet tips

Bring on the blue plates: It’s supposedly the most unappetising colour and studies have shown that if you eat from a blue plate you eat less.

A cookie a day: According to the cookie diet you can eat one cookie and skip a meal. Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson swear by it.

Epson Salt spa: Heidi Klum bathes in Epson Salt to soak away the pounds.

Hike it up: Kate Bosworth, Cat Deeley and Renee Zellweger are big fans of hiking as a way to get off the pounds.

Knit don’t snack: Yes! Uma Thurman and Julia Roberts supposedly knit to keep themselves from snacking.

Make peace with sushi: While Jennifer Arniston and Angelina Jolie might not sit at the same dinner table, both ladies love sushi.

All that yaz: Yaz is the new Hollywood workout fad. It combines spinning and yoga.

And Cindy Pearlman’s last pearl of wisdom: “These women don’t skip the gym – ever. If they have to get up at 5am to start filming, they will get up at 3am to work out. They never miss a day.”
