The annual Eat Out Produce Awards hosted with World Design Capital

Food is the very essence of design from how it’s grown to the planning, preparation and presentation to its colour, texture and of course taste.

It was with this in mind that the annual Eat Out Produce Awards, celebrating outstanding independent South African food producers for their integrity, passion and innovation, were recognised as a World Design Capital (WDC) Cape Town 2014 project.

World Design Capital – Cape Town

World Design
Capital recognise the value of design thinking, and are dedicated to
using design as tool for social, cultural and economic development.

Cape Town was designated World Design Capital 2014 at the International

The aim of the Awards

Sustainability is the status of the annual Produce Awards as an official project.

It was submitted under the World Design Capital 2014 theme of ‘Today for Tomorrow – sustainable solutions for people and planet’.

The Eat Out Produce Awards champion the importance of organic, biodynamic and responsibly grown produce. It also uplifts small local producers and involves the stores, markets and food bloggers whose role in supporting and promoting them is vital.

Positive outcomes for all

By awarding and supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses for their innovation and food design, they will contribute to local economy and encourage entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices.

Past winners are testimony to the difference the Awards have made to their lives and businesses with some of these people started as tiny home industrie producing goods in their home kitchens.

Since winning the Award, they have grown into flourishing businesses and small factories with country-wide distribution for their products.
