Take the bull by the horns

Not unlike the pride experienced by those running with the bulls in Pamplona, grown men have been known to shed tears of joy when awarded the Spanish Wild Bull Trophy.

In January ‘The Greek Fisherman Restaurant’ and ‘City Grill Steakhouse’ were honoured when they won the 2007 International Award for Tourist, Hotel and Catering. They beat thousands of other restaurants in the selection process to each win this international trophy. There were a 103 winners all together in the 2007 competition now in its 32nd year.

They were selected through a nomination process whereby representatives of the Trade Leader’s Club visited the restaurants anonymously and rated them on service, food, décor and overall appeal. The Trade Leader’s Club is a Spanish-based association of enterprises comprising more than 7,000 members in 120 countries.

The winners of the International Award for Tourism, Hotel and Catering are invited to collect their Spanish Wild Bull Trophy at an awards event in Madrid.

Peter Protoulis, owner of both restaurants said: “We thought they’d made a mistake when we learned that both restaurants had won. Once you realise the rigorous process that goes into the selection and judging of these awards, you appreciate even more. I’m a very proud man and I’m in very good company with other winners around the world.”

Both restaurants are located in V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. ‘The Greek Fisherman Restaurant’ prepares seafood dishes in typical Greek taverna style while ‘City Grill Steakhouse’ diners are invited to experience more of the wild side of Africa by indulging in steaks, game and exotic meat such as ostrich and crocodile.
