Being a digital-only food publication, we’re always interested in the evolution of food technology; how people are accessing recipes and cooking food at home – whether it’s through an online delivery platform or having a smart oven that connects to all your other home devices. And while recipe apps have been around for ages (yawn), there’s a new one called PixFood that’s got our attention.
According to the PixFood site, “by using advanced photo recognition and complex machine learning, PixFood gives you tailored suggestions on what to cook next.” In a nutshell, you take a photo of any ingredient and through the concept of artificial intelligence (AI), it will learn over time what kind of recipes you personally like.
“The idea here is that when you’ve reached a full ¯_(?)_/¯ moment, this can help point you toward a destination more so than just a blind search on a recipe site for “potato”, says Lifehacker.
“As PixFood’s tech stands now, it’s a step up from just recognizing whether or not something’s a hot dog”, reports engadget.
Techcrunch states that the app only launched in August and already has 3000 monthly active users from 10 000 downloads.
