Starbucks to serve beer-flavoured coffee

The weather is warming up here in the southern hemisphere but autumn (or fall) has begun in the north. Starbucks, the world-famous coffee brand is serving their much-loved Pumpkin spice latte again but the seasonal specialty will eventually be phased out. The coffee drinking public needs something new to look forward to and Time reassures that plans are underway…

The rise of craft beer has served as a source of inspiration for the latest and rather different Starbucks offering. ‘The Dark Barrel Stout’, topped with whipped cream and dark caramel sauce is supposed to taste like dark Irish stout – with flavours of toasty, malty Guinness. Although some might be disappointed to learn that it’s going to be made free of alcohol.

This new flavoured coffee product is reportedly being tested in Ohio and Florida at select branches. A BuzzFeed writer (a trustworthy source of coffee critique) has verified that it really does taste like beer. Tweets abound from those in the know but it’s not everyone’s taste.

How would you feel about starting your morning with beer-flavoured coffee?

Perhaps you would prefer cold-brew coffee but if that’s not your cup of tea either (excuse the pun!), this Café de olla may heat things up.
