Starbucks to hit South Africa

Starbucks is finally making its way to SA. Why has it taken so long? It appears that the guys who brought us Domino’s Pizza will be launching arguably the world’s most famous coffee brand in Joburg soon.

Starbucks began in 1971 as a retailer and roaster of whole beans and ground coffee. It now boasts 21 000 stores in more than 66 countries.

Does anyone remember when Starbucks made a brief appearance in SA during the 2010 Soccer World Cup? Fin24 reports that the first permanent Starbucks location in sub-Saharan Africa will open in Jozi in mid-2016.

Established coffee chains as well as independent stores are reportedly excited about the arrival of the coffee giant. In fact, the owner of Truth Coffee in Cape Town, David Donde, told Fin24 that he welcomes the competition. Read the full story here.
