Starbucks: Size matters

The concept
of “super- size” was first introduced with McDonald’s meals a few years back
and it seems it doesn’t stop there.

According to article on the Gaurdian.co.uk, Starbucks,
America’s leading coffee franchise is getting ready to launch their “Trenta”. That’s
almost a litre of your favourite iced coffee.
Starbucks says that the reason behind this gargantuan beverage is the
demand for it in the market. This cup packs a whopping 917ml of caffeine
goodness and “sweetened” versions contain 230 calories.

There are health
concerns over the size and effects of these coffees. Never mind the fact
that the average stomach holds 900 ml. The National Post took the liberty of
producing this graphic
to demonstrate the size of the “Trenta”.

Personally
I can see the allure of the bigger cup if I’m parked at my laptop grinding away
and I’d like to skip the inconvenience of standing in a line to order a refill.
Although, “Trenta” means 30 in Italian and probably named as such for the amount
of times you’d have to make a bathroom break. Not sure which is more
inconvenient then.

Wonder if
Vida e Caffé would consider introducing this giant coffee.

Do you think South
Africa will embrace the “super-sized” culture?
