Starbucks coming to SA: Food24 readers voice their opinions

Yesterday we reported that Starbucks Coffee will be launching stores in South Africa next year. And while many are excited about having access to a coffee menu that’s as in depth and as complicated as a scientific mathematical equation, there are some who are less impressed and believe Starbucks Coffee is overrated.

This may be true and we are curious to know what kind of pricing the brand will have in South Africa. Even though it’s a “generic” coffee brand, you can expect to pay up to the equivalent of R50 for a cup of coffee when travelling abroad. We’ve come a long way with the quality of our coffee, however SA doesn’t really have the kind of coffee culture that other countries do – such as the USA and Australia but it’s evident that with the launch of such a well-known brand in our country, places like Johannesburg and Cape Town are being recognised at true international cities. Not to mention the fact that one of Cape Town’s restaurants has recently been named no. 28 in the world!
