See the world’s biggest rhino cake

We were lucky to get to the Cape Town leg of the Good Food & Wine Show this past weekend and as usual we got to see some amazing foodie activations and a host of exciting products to try! There were some big-shot celeb chefs – like George Calombaris from MasterChef Australia – but what really impressed us was a life size replica of a rhino….made out of CAKE!

What struck us was just how realistic it looked – which is a huge testament to the ability of the pastry chef who created it. Wellington-based cake master, Dot Klerck used 35kg chocolate and 130kg of fondant to make it.

Why?

The rhino cake was commissioned by the Rhinos in Africa Foundation as a way of raising funds for the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre which is home to eleven rhino orphans.

The call to action:
A R30 donation automatically entered one into a raffle to stand a chance to win a diamond necklace (alas – not the cake!).

How many people do you think this cake would feed? Let us know your answer in the comments section!
