Restaurant winter specials

Maybe my blood has just thinned out after a month in the Caribbean (yes it was INSANE, thanks) but I’m freezing my butt off these days! Winter is here. To me it also means a whack of emails from restaurants and their respective PR people informing us of their Winter Specials. Yes, it’s the time of year when the tables are turned and the restaurants shmoooooze us patrons.

I don’t know whether to head to Live Bait for their R60 prawns or Polana for their half an Elgin free-range chicken or Nobu for their R299 5-course menu or to The Greenhouse for a “Surprise Menu” of 5 courses with wine for only R295. Help, I’m running out of winter weekends to do stuff!

We get a lot of flack from our readers about being so Cape Town–whipped. And rightly so – after all the rest of the country does find the time to head out for a bite to eat occasionally – but quite frankly it’s hard not to be Cape Town content heavy.

We get dozens of emails everyday from Cape Town PRs and restaurant owners letting us know the awesome specials they have on that month and we say “Ta very much” and load it up onto the “restaurant specials page” on the site. It’s that simple. And it keeps us very busy.

And how many emails do we get from Joburg, Durban, PE and the rest the country? About 1 a month… yes thank you Le Canard, keep em coming.

As much as we go digging for information on restaurants, their menus and special offers it helps us tremendously if you are pro-active and send us the juice. Even if you just send us the name of the restaurant we’ll get onto them and load their fab deals and you guys can go out and warm up your tummies with the best winter warmers out there.

Now we know that you care about your local restaurants so why not help them out and send us their details if they are doing something unique or different… or…that word every diner likes to hear… a deal!

So if you are a restaurant owner, a friend of a restaurant owner, a restaurant PR, a restaurant employee or a restaurant patron… just drop us a line by emailing us at editor@food24.com and we’ll do the rest. And just to show how serious we are – we’re giving a R500 Kalahari voucher to the person who gives us the top “non-capetonian” tip on a hot restaurant special.

Get involved.
