Well we all know he has a big mouth and has been known to piss a few people off, but the latest fishy tale about UK celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay must have come as a bit of a surprise – even to him.
Ramsay was in the Central American country Costa Rica shooting scenes for the new British series Big Fish Fight when him and his crew were held up at gunpoint by gangsters and doused in petrol. Ramsay was investigating illegal shark fin trading when they were confronted by the gangsters who kill thousands of the sharks.
Ramsay told his story to the Daily Mail:
‘It’s a multibillion-dollar industry, completely unregulated,’
‘We traced some of the biggest culprits to Costa Rica. The day before we got there, a Taiwanese crew landed a haul of hammerhead sharks – police searched the boat and found bails of cocaine. These gangs operate from places that are like forts, with barbed-wire perimeters and gun towers.
‘At one, I managed to shake off the people who were keeping us away, ran up some stairs to a rooftop and looked down to see thousands and thousands of fins, drying on rooftops for as far as the eye could see. When I got back downstairs, they tipped a barrel of petrol over me.’
Ramsay and his crew were advised by the police to leave the country – or risk being shot.
