Ramsay gravy train heads for Cape Town

Modelled on its British namesake, maze is due to open in the new jewel in the Sol Kerzner holiday resort crown – One&Only Cape Town

– as early as Easter 2009.

One&Only Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront is a special homecoming for Kerzner International and to mark this sentimental occasion, none other than Gordon Ramsay and Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa, have stepped up to the plate.

The two biggest names in the restaurant business will be serving up maze and Nobu respectively.

Capetonians and international tourists alike will be able to enjoy first hand master chefs and culinary giants at work in the comfort and splendour of the Mother City.

maze, Cape Town
With a capacity of up to 170 guests, maze will be serving up tasting-sized dishes drawing mostly on the traditional recipes of South Africa.

The restaurant will showcase the best in local seafood and game. It will also stock the largest and most innovative collection of local wine in South Africa housed in a glorious tri-level wine loft.

The whole project will be overseen by Michelin star chef, Jason Atherton, of maze, London, who will be developing the menu and administering service standards.

Atherton was the first British chef to complete training at Spain’s famous El Bulli restaurant, and took maze to its first Michelin star after only six months of opening.

Surely he can’t fail to pull off the same magic in one of the world’s most magnificent venues. And with such big guns in the mix, the highly anticipated bang will surely be louder than the one that is heard daily from Signal Hill.
