Prominent SA wine estate launches its own coffee brand

One of Stellenbosch’s premium wine estates now has its own brand of coffee.

“World-class wines and excellent coffee are a must!” says Jordan Wine Estate marketing manager, Thea  van der Merwe, “but it was first and foremost essential to offer great coffee to guests visiting the estate and to those staying in the Luxury Suites on the estate, during breakfast time. “

After many requests from guests asking about where the delicious coffee they were drinking, came from, the team at Jordan decided to add it as a retail item and name it after their Merlot, called Black Magic. “Our Merlot vineyards are based on Black Tourmaline-rich granite which darkens the soil, leading to perfumed, inky wines!”

The process of bringing the coffee to life started in September with many cups sipped before deciding on the perfect blend. It’s a blend of two central American countries, and a little bit of Ethiopian Sidamo to add complexity. Currently, the coffee is roasted fresh, every two weeks by Red Roof Roasters in Stellenbosch and all the coffee beans used are Fairtrade and ethically sourced.

Find the coffee at The Bakery at Jordan – where it comes in 250g bags and you can choose between ground or beans. It’s also the coffee used in the restaurant so you can enjoy a cuppa with a sweet treat from the bakery while overlooking the gorgeous dam and stunning Stellenbosch mountains.
