Pete Goffe-Wood in Global Pizza Challenge

Celebrity Chef Pete Goffe-Wood of Kitchen Cowboys and MasterChef South Africa fame is set to travel to Sydney this week to participate in the Global Pizza Challenge, to represent South Africa against some of the greatest pizza-making minds in the world.

He won the South African leg of the Global Pizza Challenge last year with his dish featuring Ostrich Bobotie on a pale ale base with Tomato Pronto chakalaka and peach chutney. His pizza beat out stiff competition from 84 other South African challengers to win him a G3 Ferrari Pizza Oven and a trip to Sydney to pit his pizza against those of challengers from around the globe.

The Global Pizza Challenge was founded in Australia to promote and encourage culinary innovation within the world’s most popular food – pizza. From humble beginnings, it has developed into the world’s biggest pizza competition, selecting national winners to compete in the Global Final.

Goffe-Wood is keen to see how his Cape Malay-inspired pizza fares against his international competitors’. “My pizza is a tribute to the quality of our local produce and a nod to the roots of authentic South African cooking,” he says. “I can’t wait to showcase South African food on a global stage, using the popularity of pizza. It’s going to be a bit of a shift, getting used to being judged again instead of being on the other side of the stove, but I can’t wait to get started”.

The Global Pizza Challenge International Final takes place at Sydney’s Royal Hall of Industries on 29 May. For more information, visit www.globalpizzachallenge.com.

Good luck Pete!
