Partner content: Vista Bar & Lounge at One&Only Cape Town is the place for foodies this winter

The Vista Bar & Lounge at One&Only Cape Town boasts a plush ambience, exceptional food (thanks to a collaboration with iconic chef Karen Dudley), and inventive cocktails. Here’s more on why you should visit this beautifully reimagined spot.

A vibrant, truly African ambience

Vista Bar & Lounge’s floor-to-ceiling glass wall showcases the ultimate view: that of the iconic Table Mountain. Besides incorporating elements of African folklore, the space pays homage to Table Mountain through various touchpoints, from the topography of the mountain in the carpeting to the four statues in the centre of the bar, which tell the story of the Watchers, a Xhosa legend about Table Mountain’s origins. The plush sofas also invite you to recline with a drink in hand and tasty nibbles while you take in the striking view.

A bespoke menu with chef Karen Dudley

Vista Bar & Lounge has also collaborated with renowned local chef Karen Dudley to create a menu that focuses on fresh, clean, simple food – all of which is core to Karen’s cooking philosophy.

Karen says: “It really has been something special. It’s a little bit of pulling in everyone with their different backgrounds and incorporating all those flavours.”

Some of the dishes guests can expect include South African favourites such as grilled prawns and mussels with a leek-and-fennel cream. Also on the menu is the mouthwatering 10-hour braised Vietnamese brisket and the rich and indulgent Very Mushroom Toast, one of Karen’s favourites.

Inventive, African-themed cocktails

Joining the team is Bryan Pieterson, a South African-born but internationally raised mixologist and the owner of Purl London in Marylebone in the UK. Drawing on the Xhosa myth of the Watchers, Bryan has created a range of cocktails that includes top-quality gin, rum, tequila and vodka along with infusions to create a multisensory experience of this local mythology. Each cocktail is named after the different elements in the story, namely: Sea – Nkanyamba, Earth – Djobela, Sun – Tixo, and Wind – Qamata.
