PARTNER CONTENT: Orphanage Cocktail Emporium’s Rock Shandy is made like no other

On the corner of Bree and Orphan Streets in a slice of Cape Town steeped in history, Orphanage Cocktail Emporium wows crowds Mondays through Saturdays with its crafted cocktails and a killer social eating menu. It has been doing so successfully for seven years.

Orphanage was one of the first hangouts in the city to celebrate the talents of mixology and the creation of artisan drinks. Similarly, it was a pioneer in adding localised and homemade infusions to their concoctions. The name is inspired by a historic Cape Town orphanage dating back to 1919 but still going to this day; St Francis Children’s Home is one of the bars biggest beneficiaries.

On entering Orphanage, you will find yourself transported back to the Prohibition-era speakeasies of the early 1900s… low lights, dark wood, stained glass windows and the peculiar finer details that make all its visitors fall in love with the quirky space and laidback vibe. In fact, Orphanage, and its highly skilled barmen, boast many awards including a Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor. But specialist cocktails and delicious fare is not all. They offer a superb bubbly and wine menu if that’s your preference, excellent and efficient service (yes, this makes an immense difference!), and deep house DJ’s from Tuesday through to Saturday from 10pm to 2am.

Paying homage to the craft and the bar’s rich heritage the menu’s exclusive elixirs – some tall, some short and even one served with a dummy goldfish – are aptly named… and SA’s ultimate summer refreshment, the Angostura® Rock Shandy, is a popular request.

You can stand a chance to win one of six cocktail experiences at one of SA’s top bars, including Orphanage Cocktail Emporium. Visit www.AngosturaRockShandy.co.za to enter!
