October Vin-atics

Hello
Quaffers,

A milestone
was achieved this month in Vin-atics! Yes, for the first time ever, we managed
to finish up all the wine at the dinner – what an achievement! Clearly we are
doing something very right when it comes to choosing our own Vin-atics wines,
as this selection was not just unusual  grape varieties, but also inexpensive –
winners all round, I’d say.

Check out the dinner party!

We had a
fab array of guests this month with wine fundis (Neil Moorhouse, winemaker of
Zorgvliet, Mariska du Preez from tasting circle Women of Wine) and food fundis
(Jane-Anne Hobbs, top blogger and Pierre Theron, restaurant manager) mingling,
arguing, tasting and eating. And, of course, it was a baptism of fire for our
new food ed, Aletta, who conducted herself with top honours by rustling up a
replacement dessert when the panna cotta failed miserably. If you want to see
all the gory details, then click here
to read the report and see the pictures.

And how was the food?

Well, I
must say, in all modesty – that it was AMAZING this month! Apart from the
panna cotta of course. But the other three dishes were superb and we scoffed the
lot. If you want to check out the recipes, then click here for all the information. And if you
want to see which wines were chosen to go with them, then click here to see all the details. Mmmm – I’m
still dreaming of that lamb with olives, anchovies,
tomatoes and garlic…

And now it’s YOUR turn.

Every month
we get more and more people keen to win R500 of Cybercellar vouchers. And it is
so simple and easy that I think you should all have a go! All you have to do is
pick a couple of dishes from the menu, buy yourself a couple of wines (one of
them is even on special this week for heaven’s sake!) eat and drink to your
heart’s content, take pics and then tell us what you thought by starting your own blog or sending us an email. The best entry
wins the vouchers – see how Janet did it last month by clicking here.

And that’s
it from me for now – I’m off to eat strawberry salad with goats’ cheese for lunch – yum, yum!

 Happy
drinking
