Jokes made about the devastating Oscar Pistorius trial have generally not been well received at all. A case in point being when SA’s own Charly’s Bakery made a batch of cookies depicting jokes about the trial and tweeted a picture of them. The social media backlash was instant and Charly’s Bakery apologised immediately.
It seems a popular restaurant in Wellington, New Zealand did not take heed, or use their common sense, when they printed an extremely distasteful joke about the tragedy on their till receipts.
The addition of the joke to the regular bill, which has been a tradition of sorts for the restaurant, read:
‘Oscar Pistorius was super keen to get a new bathroom door, but his girlfriend was dead against it’.
Understandably the reaction on social media was one of disbelief and accusation.
The owner of the restaurant removed the offensive joke and apologised profusely in an interview with the New Zealand Herald. The restaurant has since made a $1000 donation to Women’s Refuge. To read the full article click here.
