New Woolworths organic breakfast range

The products are grown and produced according to strict organic farming principles and are certified by independent certifying bodies. Most products are also low in sodium with no added sugar.

Food24 sampled the following products.

1. Organic Peanut Butter R15,95
The chunky and smooth peanut butter options are made from 100% peanuts. No hydrogenated fats, emulsifiers or stabilisers were added so the natural peanut oil separates on top. Just give it good stir. Once again a big bonus is that no salt or sugar was added without losing any impact on the taste. The chunky peanut butter has delicious ‘big’ chunky peanuts in it with a rich texture that doesn’t stick in your throat and can compete with Skippy and Black Cat any day of the week.

2. Organic Reduced Sugar Jam R21,95
The jams are made from sun-sweetened organic fruit and contains 30% less sugar than other jams. The jams (Cherry and Berry and Peach and Passion Fruit) were both delicious and sweet with a hint of sour fruit. Both get big thumbs up from two of our Food24 foodies who don’t really like jams.

3. Organic Ground Coffee R32,95
Organic coffee is not something new to the South African market. The Woolworth brand comes from the Honduran coast blended with Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe to create rich full blend.

4. Organic Vanilla Instant Oats R16,95
If you love Oats so Easy then Woolworth’s organic take on this brand will not disappoint. It’s a bit on the sweet side but still very convenient for a fast breakfast.

5. Organic Swiss Style Wholegrain Muesli R32,95
The muesli mix is packet with oats, wheat flakes, sunflower seeds and dried fruit. If you are looking for a ‘clean’ style muesli with a proper fibre fix then this muesli should do the trick.

6. Organic Rice Milk R16,95
The soya milk products available in South Africa still need to come a long way before it will be able to compete with international soya milk brands on taste and quality. However if you are looking for an alternative to soya milk products available locally, this product might just be the answer. While is still won’t make you tea white, it has a creamy and delicious taste that gets our vote for a dairy replacement.
