New wine from Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher

The latest sportsmen to get involved in the wine world are cricketers Jacques Kallis and Mark Boucher who’ve taken advantage of the hotly disputed England vs SA test series to launch their own label.

Made by Robertson winery, Rietvallei, and called ‘The Innings’, it’s refers to the celebration of friendship of these two iconic South African sportsmen over many years, both on and off the pitch.

Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon

The wines are made by family-owned farm, Rietvallei and both Jacques and Mark were involved in their selection. The two wines in the range – a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Sauvignon – were first screened by a consumer panel of cricket-loving wine fans before Jacques, Mark and owner/winemaker Kobus Burger made the final choices.

The story behind the wine

Jacques Kallis is currently sporting an Innings sticker on his bat, as Mark Boucher was also meant to before his unfortunate accident resulted in his repatriation to SA.

The Innings is about friendship and all that Mark and Jacques have accomplished, both on and off the field. They have had an amazing INNINGS together as cricketers and this is only the start of another great partnership as Boucher’s international cricket career comes to a close.

The wines have been launched in a flurry of social media and you can follow their progress on Facebook Twitter @TheInnings with prizes being given away for predicting Kallis’s scores and other fun stuff.

The wines are available directly from the farm (info@rietvallei.co.za) priced at R50 for the Sauvignon Blanc 2012 and R65 for the Cabernet Sauvignon 2010.

Get in there early peeps! This is sure to be a hot seller if social media interest is anything to go by!
