Nando’s Nkandla Report joke

Nando’s, South Africa’s funniest food chain, are once again making the nation laugh with one of their topical posters.

This time the fun is poked at the Nkandla Report released yesterday which concluded that South African president Jacob Zuma is not required to pay for security upgrades at Nkandla.

One of those security upgrades is the infamous firepool. Police Minister Nathi Nhleko defended the firepool yesterday, and even gave a demonstration on how the firepool is used.

Nhleko said that according to the SA Police Service’s evaluation report, fire fighting equipment had to be made available at the premises when the need arose because of the architecture of the site.

“Fire equipment is essential given the architecture of the homestead and fire fighting capability must be on the site,” he said.

The Mhlathuze local municipality had tested water pressure from water mains and found that an open water source was the best fire for fighting fighting “and nothing could be better than the pool or the dam”.

“The firepool is first to be used for fire fighting, second, recreation in the homestead.”

With a reported price tag of R3.9 million for the fire pool it is no wonder it has become a talking point.

Nando’s had this to say on their Twitter account yesterday:

@NandosSA So about that pool… #NkandlaReport

Nando’s Tweeted the poster yesterday and it has over 500 ReTweets already.
