Movie night

Santa and his reindeer are gone (don’t worry kids not for ever) and have been replaced by winged cherubs sporting dangerously sharp arrows.

Girls flutter their eyelashes and make googly eyes at boys while the former wildly calculate whether those teddy bears, balloons, chocolates and flowers will push them into overdraft and get them some well deserved action.

So in the spirit of romance, broken hearts and first kisses, Food24 has picked some of their favourite romantic movies and paired them with a recipe suited to each movie.

So get the video store and make a meal to remember.

When Harry met Sally
Who can forget the classic scene in a diner where all men’s egos and naïve misperceptions were crushed when Sally demonstrated just how easy it is to fake an orgasm. Boys, try getting it right this Valentine’s Day – and if you can’t get her going, maybe these gourmet sandwiches will give you the strength to carry on.

Pretty Women

We’ve all had those dates when we try too hard and make complete fools of ourselves by tripping on our new heels, dropping our sushi in the sauce or hitting the unsuspecting waiter in the eye with a snail: ‘Those slippery little suckers’. Hopefully your date is too preoccupied with how hot you look that he barely notices (fingers crossed). In the end it’s always best to just smile and be yourself, who knows what will happen.

My Best Friend’s Wedding
If this movie taught us anything it was that you may end up as “The pus that infects the mucus that cruds up the fungus that feeds on the pond scum” and that true friends will forgive you for whatever you put them through. So if you don’t have a date this V-day, who cares! Call your single friends, stock up on wine, chocolate, popcorn and homemade pizza and slouch in front of the TV with your favourite romcom or slasher flicK.

Pride and Prejudice
Most women (and some men) are secretly pining away for an eloquently smouldering Mr Darcy to sweep them off their feet and away from reality. In the spirit of Jane Austen and long-lost gentlemen why not entice the one you’re after with this traditional Beef Wellington.

Twilight
The real live vampire phenomenon that has all who watch it (girls and married women) yearning to be bitten by their long lost Edward Cullen. Why not sip on some Chilli vodka Bloody Marys while you wait for your pale prince to take you away?

Meet Joe Black
THE movie with Brad that had every human swooning after him. Especially that scene with the… peanut butter! Entice your love with a spoon of the sacred stuff wherever you please, or try this delectable Peanut butter pie.

Lady and the Tramp

The movie that makes me want to share spaghetti and meatballs with every cute guy I meet.  Emulate that greasy first kiss this Valentine’s Day with our Lady and the Tramp menu.
