MasterChef SA: Video

In last night’s episode the 10 remaining contestants found themselves cooking within a very often overlooked challenge that a lot of people struggle with on a day-to-day basis; cooking within a budget.

The challenge:
Devise a meal  “worthy of royalty,” for four people, under R150 in 60 minutes. They all came out way over budget with the exception of Lungile worked like a pro. She knew what she wanted to do, and thus planned well.

The other nine contestants all had to return items to Benny as Pete calculated their totals.

Joining the Judges on this episode was the fabulous food editor of ‘Taste’ magazine, Abigail Donnelly.

Sam, whose roasting of trout was “too robust” and whose asparagus was undercooked and grainy, seemed to be on a doomed path to nowhere because in the elimination challenge she bombed out yet AGAIN with her over-seasoning! Tssssk.

All she had to do was rescue a rescue a minestrone soup in six steps. Clearly she wasn’t aux fair with the fact that minestrone is a vegetable soup and started throwing pancetta into to it. She also added the tomato paste too late. Eeuw! Bitter!

Jade did reasonably well while Khaya became known as the “coriander girl” because she mistook the pungent herb for parsley.
