Masterchef SA: Video

‘Today’s Pressure Test will test perseverance to its absolute limit’, was judge Pete Goffe- Wood’s comment following the announcement that this week’s test would involve a grueling 12 hour challenge.

The Invention Test

Episode 14 saw the remaining 7 contestants back home on SA soil, cooking iconic SA food – boerewors. The catch? They had to prepare the sausage from scratch! Easy, you say?

They had two hours to complete the Invention Test and create something that was nothing but top-notch restaurant-quality.

Manisha and Sarel were awarded the two best dishes of the day, but sadly the bottom 3 lasses went into the Pressure Test: Sue-Ann, Khaya and Ilse.

The Pressure Test

At first they didn’t believe the judges when they told them they’d be cooking through the night, with hormonal Khaya laughing hysterically and Sue-Anne proclaiming it a ‘sick joke’.  (working in the kitchen is not a day at the beach, girls!)

The dish

The dish they had to prepare was slow-roasted shoulder of lamb, terrine made from lamb shanks, vegetables, maxim potato and a red wine jus.

Sue-Ann and Isle had difficulty in de-boning the lamb shoulder, but Supergirl Khaya was – as usual, on top form. Man, that girl knows how to pull it together when she needs to.

After tasting everything, Benny said, ‘I would proudly put those dishes on the menu in my restaurant. The quality and standard were set very high.’

Unfortunately though, pretty girl Ilse’s meal just didn’t make the grade. Her lamb was overcooked and her potatoes were just not quite there.
