I was always the guzzler.
I could never
understand how my older sister managed to keep all
those luscious eggs in her special drawer only to eat them slowly throughout
the year, without me of course.
It was one of the most exciting times in our home and definitely
on a par with the wonder of Christmas.
Imagine 3 little girls, wide-eyed and filled with the
promise of chocolate brought to them on the back of a giant white bunny. We
would uncover our treasures in secret hiding places with riddles and funny maps that helped us in the next thrilling find. It
was magical.
It was a strange day when I recognised my mother’s
handwriting on the little poems. I can still remember the exact spot I was
standing in. But I suppose that’s what growing up is all about and I’m thankful that
some snotty-nosed bully wasn’t my bunny killer.
I’d like to keep Easter that way, filled with Alice in
Wonderland and Willy Wonka-style enchantment.
I’ve got a couple of ideas for young and old to help you
fill your long weekend with some Easter magic:
1. Buy boxes of marshmallow eggs and little brightly coloured bouncing balls.
Hide them all over the house and garden and see how many the sproglets can find. It’s
easy on your pocket and heaven for the kiddies.
2. Do a proper treasure hunt with a map. Make it simple
enough to cover all the ages and hide different eggs and prizes along the way.
Remember to keep some aside for those who didn’t find anything or there will be
tears!
3. Buy the white eggs with chocolate inside and some food
colouring. It’s super fun to paint them in different colours with funny faces
and even better to eat them at the end.
4. Make a colourful
Easter ice cream. Buy a tub of vanilla ice cream and let it soften for about 20
minutes at room temperature. Put it in a glass bowl or individual glasses and
mix in lots of little coloured eggs. Refreeze it. When it’s time to serve,
cover the top in more eggs and you’ve got an easy, no-fuss Easter egg ice
cream.
5. For a festive table arrangement, put little bunnies, eggs and feathers down the middle of the table.
6.
Organise a sports hour with chocolate egg and spoon, sack race and
musical chairs. It’s such fun and keeps the little ones busy.
7. Get dad or gramps to dress up as Willy Wonka and tell a story whilst the kids feast on some ice cream cones.
It’s
all in the name of fun people, satisfy your chocolate cravings
guilt-free this Easter whilst the halflings in your life get some
chocolate magic.
