Local chefs  Rikku Ó’Donnchü and Warwick King are at it again! They released a teaser video for their new restaurant, receiving almost 50 000 views in its first 2 days online.

The two are best known for their avant-garde style of cooking at their previous restaurant, Gåte at Quoin Rock. There, guests were entertained and at times, surprised, by their quirky food and visual puns.

The new teaser video has been released ahead of the opening of Syn at 47, a new pop up eatery on Bree Street Cape Town. The restaurant has been billed as “edgy, dark and FUN.”

‘I always say it’s fun dining, not fine dining! We’ll use local artists to bring in sculptures and art pieces, but think in terms of The Joker meets Salvador Dali.’ Says Rikku.

An outspoken character, Chef Rikku is a familiar face on the South African restaurant scene. His ambitious culinary execution has attracted both criticism and praise.

Some in the industry feel that theatrical dining is dated and would prefer a shift towards a more honest style of cooking, while other critics have been thrilled with an evening of all-around entertainment.

Judging from this video, Syn at 47 is sure to be a wild ride as Rikku continues, “The food and drink offerings will be contemporary and really set to mess with your mind, both visually and taste-wise.”

The restaurant is set to begin serving up drama, smoke and surprises on 16 July 2019. Bookings for Syn at 47 are now open online.
