Laduma for local winemakers

Local winemakers Bruwer Raats and Mzokhona Mvemve scored a goal for the South African wine industry this week, when their wines were served exclusively during The Captain’s Dinner hosted at the Vodadome in Johannesburg.

Raats is the owner of Raats Family Wines and co-owner with Mvemve of the Mwemve-Raats label, which has produced the internationally acclaimed MR de Compostella red wine.  The gala dinner was hosted by Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena in aid of his charity, The Aaron Mokoena Foundation, which focuses on educational and development programmes for under-privileged youth in South Africa.

Guests attending the red-carpet event were entertained with performances by jazz great Hugh Masekela, musician Brian Temba as well as Danny K and Pan Jazz International.  Raats and Mvemve had the opportunity to rub shoulders with captain Mokoena, Matthew Booth and striker Teko Modise.  “We loved your wines, but could not drink much of it tonight.  I would love to enjoy them after the World Cup,” said Booth.

“It was an amazing honour for myself and Mzo to have our wines present at such an amazing occasion.  It was a great privilege to meet the Bafana captain and players and to wish them luck for the tournament.  We appreciated the opportunity to be a part of the fundraising effort for Aaron’s wonderful foundation and to support the incredible work that they do,” mentioned Raats.
