La Motte wine in Franschhoek

La
Motte’s
historical charm, its stylish offering in the enjoyment of wine,
cuisine and the arts, and above all, its people’s warm spirit of sharing, set
this Estate apart as a wine tourism destination.

An
extraordinary acquaintance with excellence

The unique
La Motte Experience starts with a warm welcome in the estate’s sociable Tasting Room.

Here, a wide variety of La
Motte’s
award-winning wines made by Cellar Master Edmund Terreblanche, can be
sampled in a stylish atmosphere, with a view of the working cellar,
which offers conducted tours by appointment.

Tastings are enjoyed amidst original works of art by acclaimed
South African artist Jacob Hendrik Pierneef (1886 – 1957), after whom La
Motte’s Pierneef Collection of premium wines is named.

Pierneef’s
name is also echoed in the elegant Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant. This restaurant offers traditional cuisine with a modern
interpretation.

Chef du Cuisine is Chris
Erasmus and he creates a unique food and wine tasting experience in an elegant and tranquil
setting which spills out onto a large outside area. The restaurant is child-friendly and they offer homemade meals for the little one’s.

Sharing the Finest in Art

Inspired by Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg, leading South African mezzo-soprano
and devoted art lover, La Motte and its people enjoy sharing the arts with visitors.

The La Motte Museum offers a stimulating cultural experience,
depicting aspects of the Rupert family and the history of La Motte
and its architecture. A fascinating display of works by famous South African
artists may be viewed. The museum is also
the departure point of the La Motte Historic Walk, a relaxing educational tour
amidst the ambiance of La Motte’s French and Cape Dutch heritage.

Classical
music concerts are presented in the magnificently restored historic
cellar, offering a sociable atmosphere that enhances the finest performances. A
varied selection of classical music is performed by renowned local as well as
international artists. Concert-goers are also hosted to selected La Motte
wines.

Respecting Green while producing Gold

Part
of La Motte’s culture of excellence is its commitment to environmental
preservation and sustainable farming. This dedication is witnessed, inter alia,
by La Motte’s accreditation to the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI), a
partnership between the South African wine industry and the conservation
sector, aimed at alleviating the impact of agricultural activities on the
environment and the protection of the ecology and
biodiversity. In this regard, the Estate enjoys BWI Champion Status.

La Motte is also proud that all its vineyards, managed by leading
viticulturist Pietie le Roux, have been granted SGS Organic Certification in
recognition of the farm’s adherence to organic production methods. Adherence to
Green principles also applies to La Motte’s flower-growing industry (La Motte
Floriculture) and its production of ethereal oils (Arômes de La Motte).
