Joburgers enjoy a wine tasting from 20 of South Africa’s finest family-owned estates

There’s nothing I dislike more than wine tasting.

Friends and I have always had to fight for attention to taste, or to have our questions answered by rude and dismissive local distributors and winemakers.

But this time it was different. We tasted less wine because the environment was so welcoming that you could hang out on the couch and socialise. No need to drink your annoyance away!

On Wednesday night, American Express hosted a wine-tasting experience at the Turbine Hall in Newtown – a perfect setting for every occasion.

Guests got to taste wine from more than 20 of South Africa’s finest family-owned estates.

The contingent of VIPs was chauffeured to the venue in beautiful cars such as a Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé – I mean, Uber vouchers are cool, but this is one way to win over a tough media crowd.

The VIPs included model Rosette Ncwana and her sweet smile, actress Jenna Dover and Lalla Hirayama, who was supposed to be the MC, but was more than an hour late.

She hosts the afternoon drive show with TBO Touch on his online station Touch HD.

Hirayama looked stressed as she walked in on someone else emceeing in her place. Looking utterly disappointed, she worked the room, unable to hide her feelings.

Nevertheless, guests had a wonderful time sipping on fine wine and eating some of the most scrumptious canapés.
