Parkmore’s 11th Street is fast becoming the go-to restaurant strip in the bustling Sandton area. Sandton itself has seen a migration of restaurants out of the business district as continuous building and traffic issues wreak havoc on people’s lunchtime meetings and dinner plans. Parkmore, being on the periphery, is the ideal alternative, attracting both corporate moguls and local residents.
Here’s the best of what 11th Street has on offer:
It has a reputation for being one of Joburg’s best; offering service and food that have remained both superb and consistent for the past 12 years. The setting is romantic and elegant, with Thomas’ eccentric style adding touches of frivolity to the interior. The cuisine can be defined as modern, French Bistro with his outlandishly indulgent, moulle frites with saffron and cream and his fillet medallions on a truffle cream, topped with a duck liver mousse and thyme butter crust bringing in the crowds time and again.

The guys from Eatery Joburg brought a sense of ‘cool’ to the Parkmore strip. Their concept is one of refined simplicity; you’ll find only five starters, five mains and five desserts on the menu and there are no choices when it comes to sides. While this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, you can be assured that each dish combines the most exquisite, organic, locally-sourced ingredients that are presented beautifully with an emphasis on excellence and flavour-balance. Their wine list is also rather scrumptious, with a wonderfully diverse and creative selection.

Upstairs from Eatery JHB is a seriously hip new venue serving up braaied and smoked deliciousness alongside craft beers, cocktails and good conversation. They’re about casual, sharing food, good music and a great night out. Get the 1kg T-bone with chimichurri and roasted garlic confit alongside some of their legendary beef fat fries for the table to share or some of their Jack Daniels chicken wings and smoked pork ribs if you’re in the mood for a cheeky snack.
The perfect spot for great coffee, a bite to eat, a meeting, after work drinks and a party on the weekends. They have a ‘build you own’ menu concept offering a fantastic range of ingredients with which to pimp your salad or your sandwich/wrap/burger. It’s a little bit retro and a little bit hipster (they have a great selection of vinyl records and are serious about good music), but we like it that way. The team who own and run it are just awesome; taking serious pride and care in what they do.
Two Italian brothers have taken over the corner of 11th Street and Victoria Avenue, with an all-day, breakfast-through-dinner, restaurant-come-deli. They offer everything from pizzas and pastas to eggs Benedict and fish and chips. Their coffee is serious (they have their very own roaster on site). It’s a great spot for a quick bite, but the wine list is a little overpriced.

The most recent addition to Parkmore; it’s tucked away just off 11th Street on Elizabeth Avenue. It’s a family-run, Korean restaurant serving authentic Korean cuisine, including Korean barbeque which you grill yourself at your table. Think kimchi, tofu, noodles and loads of different pork dishes. The décor is simple at best, but the food is worth it. Bring your own booze.
