It’s official – the world’s best bartender is a woman

Last week in a truly glittering ceremony in the sultry Florida city of Miami – French female bartender, Jennifer Le Nechet was announced the world’s best bartender. You go girl!

Le Nechet (who works at Café Moderne in Paris), along with nearly 10 000 other bartenders from across the globe, put their mixology skills to the ultimate test in the prestigious and grueling competition that takes place each year in a different city.

Last year the global finals were held in Cape Town and Food24 was lucky to have attended many of the challenges and let’s just say this – you have to be insanely good to make it through to the final stages so our hats go off to Jennifer for this amazing achievement.

She wowed the judges with her steam punk themed pop-up bar (which she only had 24 hours to create!). Each challenge showcased a different skill from technique, personality, spirits knowledge to how well they perform under pressure, like the famous ‘Against the Clock’ challenge where the bartenders have to mix up to fourteen quintessential drinks in just 10 minutes.
