From smash cakes to pizza wedding bouquets, food takes centre stage in most celebrations and now we introduce you to the latest trend which has Twitter users up in arms: “Gender reveal lasagne”.
The classic dinner-time favourite has been transformed into a dyed cheese dish we’re not too hasty to try.
As an expectant mom-to-be, I have been using Pinterest for inspiration to find the perfect way to reveal the gender of my baby to my friends and family. However, my ideas ranged from blue or pink confetti filled balloons or a vanilla funfetti cake filled with the Smarties of the respective colour, but never once during this time, has blue or pink dyed lasagne crossed my mind.
Italian restaurant chain, Villa Italian Kitchen announced that they’ve added #LasagnaReveal to their catering menu which, according to their website, “features one cheese lasagna with a secret pink or blue interior, a tray of Villa Italian Kitchen’s famed garlic rolls and a choice of either a garden, Caesar or Greek salad “ – which if it was available in South Africa, would cost you around R1900 – just to announce the gender of your baby!
Twitter users are not pleased, and some noted, lasagne-obsessed Garfield would never appreciate this rendition of the beloved baked pasta dish.
