The iconic rock ‘n roll restaurant, Hard Rock Café, has opened its on Camps Bay’s strip, a highly appropriate location and just in time for Summer.
This will mark the group’s third café in South Africa, the other two situated in Sandton, Johannesburg and Menlyn Park, Pretoria. These three cafés are part of a global chain of 178 cafés across 74 countries.
Capetonians might remember Hard Rock Café situated in the V&A Waterfront around the mid 90s, but it was confirmed that this was not at all affiliated to the Hard Rock group and was merely a unauthorised replication. This means that the Camps Bay branch, is the first of its kind, where diners get to experience the real Hard Rock Café and its plethora of music memorabilia.
The two-story space, offers balcony seating overlooking the crowded beach front. Inside the restaurant embodies that signature glam rock aesthetic with shiny gold pendant lamps, dark purple walls, and plush textured seats. The space also includes two bars, one upstairs and the other downstairs, and multiple screens to watch classic music videos through the ages.
Of course the music memorabilia is the most important aspect of the decor, each item displayed carefully with individual spotlights. These pieces form part of a larger quantity of around 70 000 memorabilia items owned by the group.
Music fans can delight in items like a chrome DW drum kit from Brent Fitz, drummer from Slash, black cowboy boots from Bob Dylan, a signed Bon Jovi cream electric guitar, and a custom-made mic stand that Rihanna used at the 2009 American Music Awards, to name only a few.
On the menu, you can expect all-American grillhouse classics with a side of Tex-Mex in the mix with sticky BBQ ribs, gourmet burgers, and a variety of bar snacks like nachos and buffalo wings.
