Great outdoor dining ideas

The weather down here in the Cape has been hot hot hot, which makes me turn my attention to the best bit of summer – lunching outdoors.

You have to be British to understand how fantastic it is to be able to plan an outdoor lunch – nearly every barbecue invitation of my childhood came with the caveat ‘As long as the weather’s okay’.

Here in SA, planning a braai is far easier – especially with Caro’s latest braai tips and recipes and my tips for the best braai wines as well. And if you need further ideas, how about some picnic wines?? Here you go.

But if you don’t want to DIY, then head off out to a wine farm for the perfect outdoor eating experience. You can go for a wine farm with a view, a wine farm for the kids, a wine farm for the best picnic or even a DIY braai on a wine farm if you really like the hands-on vibe!

All of these set outdoors in some beautiful surroundings and with great food and wine. Here are my suggestions for the best ones to choose.

Naturally, the best thing about these wine farms for me is, of course, the wine. I like the fact that for the most part, there is little or no mark-up on the wines which makes for a cheap day out and is certainly something many of you would appreciate if the comments on JD Haasbroek’s ‘Corkage is for Cheapskates’ article is anything to go by.

Check it out – plenty of hilarious and outraged opinions to see there!

And on that note, I’m off out for lunch. Again. So many farms, so many wines – it’s a hard life isn’t it?

Happy summer days folks!
