Global pizza challenge

Introduced by Australian chef Glenn Austin the Global Pizza Challenge (GPC) was started to encourage culinary innovation within the pizza market.

Endorsed by the South African Chefs Association (SACA), the competition has finally arrived on the South African coast. All individual pizza makers are invited to participate; whether you are representing a stand-alone pizzeria, restaurant, take-away outlet, hotel, suburban hot spot in a trendy part of town or just a home enthusiast; and show your talent.

Entrants pay a participation fee of R150 and submit their original and commercially viable recipes within the four categories;

  • Chicken or meat
  • Seafood
  • Vegetarian
  • Specialty or dessert

    All the recipes are assessed by a panel of internationally recognised chefs. The recipes are judged on their originality, balance, creativity and on that certain x-factor.

    30 to 40 finalists will be invited to Hostex (15-18 March) at the Sandton Convention Center to compete in the South African Global Pizza Challenge. The winner will get an all expenses paid trip to Asia in order to represent South Africa in the international competition.
