Roots, born Keith Valentine Graham, is a reggae musician, chef and entrepreneur currently residing in Brixton, South London. He was a close friend of Bob Marley and performed “Happy Birthday Mr. President” for Nelson Mandela in 1992 on his trip to London.
He gained widespread fame after appearing on the UK television programme Dragon’s Den looking for funding for his now famous “Reggae Reggae Sauce”, a jerk barbecue sauce made from his grandmother’s secret recipe. The sauce has been used in the family food stall at the well-known annual Notting Hill Carnival since 1991.
After winning over the business minds of Dragon’s Den with a song and a smile, Levi Roots shot to fame and has since sold more than one million bottles of his delicious sauce.
The bright and colourful book is an entertaining read and is filled with simple and authentic recipes passed on from generation to generation.
Interspersed with these rustic ‘island style’ recipes are wonderful pictures depicting the Caribbean, together with stories from Levi’s upbringing in Jamaica.
